Deli worker stabbed while stopping shoplifter in Harlem
A worker at a deli in Harlem was stabbed in the neck on Wednesday. Police believe he was trying to stop a shoplifting attempt when he was attacked. The incident happened at the Food Market located at Third Ave. and E. 116th St. The victim, a 24-year-old man, was found injured at the scene. He was quickly taken to Harlem Hospital and is now in stable condition. Co-workers described him as a nice, young man who occasionally helps out at the deli. The attacker was caught on surveillance cameras. He was wearing a blue jacket, a surgical mask, and a do-rag. He was seen holding a long knife during the confrontation. Witnesses said that after a brief argument over the theft, the suspect stabbed the worker. The suspect is thought to be homeless and was last seen running down Third Ave. Currently, no arrests have been made. Police are reviewing more surveillance footage to help identify the attacker.
