Delivery driver dies in Hwy. 5 collision in Hamilton
A delivery driver has died after a serious crash on Highway 5 in Hamilton. The accident involved a loaded gravel-hauling truck and the delivery vehicle, occurring around 9:30 a.m. on Monday. The 55-year-old driver from Brantford was pronounced dead at the scene. According to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, the delivery truck was traveling westbound when it collided head-on with the eastbound tractor trailer, which could not avoid the crash. After the collision, the delivery truck caught fire, and debris was left scattered across the highway. The driver was ejected from his vehicle during the impact. Investigators are currently at the scene, and Highway 5 is closed between Millgrove Road and Rock Chapel Road. Police expect the road to remain closed until around 7 p.m.
