Democrat accuses Republican chair of breaching confidentiality in Matt Gaetz report deliberations
The top Democrat on the House Ethics Committee, Rep. Susan Wild, accused Republican Chairman Rep. Michael Guest of "betraying the process" after a meeting failed to reach a decision on releasing a report about former Congressman Matt Gaetz's alleged misconduct. Wild stated that Guest disclosed details of their deliberations, which they had agreed to keep confidential. The committee, evenly split between Democrats and Republicans, did not reach a consensus on whether to release the report, which is under scrutiny as Gaetz seeks confirmation as attorney general. The committee plans to reconvene on December 5 to further discuss the report. Some Senate Republicans have suggested they may subpoena the House panel if the report is not shared. Gaetz is currently seeking support from Senate Republicans for his nomination.
