Democrat supports GOP bill to prevent government shutdown
A House Democrat voted for a GOP-led stopgap bill that passed, funding the government until October and preventing a shutdown. The bill increases defense spending by $6 billion and cuts non-defense spending by $13 billion. Rep. Jared Golden of Maine was the only Democrat to support the bill, while one Republican opposed it. Golden stated that his vote aimed to avoid a harmful government shutdown, which could disrupt services and affect federal employees. The government funding is set to lapse on March 14 without a new agreement. Golden acknowledged the bill's imperfections but emphasized the need to maintain government operations.
