Democrats seek criminal probe into Musk's FAA ties
Three Democratic senators have called for a criminal investigation into Elon Musk regarding a possible contract between his company, Starlink, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The senators are Elizabeth Warren, Richard Blumenthal, and Chris Van Hollen. They are concerned that Musk's role in this situation might violate conflict-of-interest laws. Reports emerged stating that the FAA may cancel a $2.4 billion contract with Verizon to upgrade air traffic control systems and replace it with a deal for Starlink. Sources have indicated that FAA officials were told to prepare for a Starlink contract. An engineer from SpaceX, which owns Starlink, claimed to be using Starlink technology to help the FAA. SpaceX has denied these allegations, stating that recent media reports are false. The company insisted that it does not intend to take over existing contracts. Musk has argued that Starlink could help improve an aging air traffic control system without costing taxpayers. The senators have expressed their worries about Musk's influence, given his position as a special government employee. They want federal authorities to investigate whether Musk's activities at the FAA present a conflict of interest. In the context of this turmoil, President Trump recently showcased a Tesla vehicle on the White House lawn. He has stated that vandalism against Tesla cars would be treated seriously. This comes amid rising protests against Musk's companies.
