Denmark increases Greenland defense budget by $1.5 billion after Trump's comments on U.S. control
Denmark plans to increase defense spending in Greenland by at least $1.5 billion. This decision follows comments from U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, who suggested that Greenland should be sold to the U.S. for national security reasons. Trump's remarks included a call for U.S. control over Greenland, which is an autonomous Danish territory. Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen stated that the funding will be used for new ships, drones, and airport upgrades. Greenland's government has firmly rejected Trump's proposal. Its leader, Múte B Egede, emphasized that Greenland is not for sale and reaffirmed their commitment to autonomy.
