DENR plans eight new marine scientific stations in Philippines
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in the Philippines plans to establish eight new marine scientific stations across various regions. This announcement was made by Environment Secretary Ma. Antonia Yulo Loyzaga during a recent forum. The initiative includes upgrades to existing stations at Tubbataha Reef and Snake Island in Palawan. New research stations will also be set up on Pag-asa Island in the West Philippine Sea and in the Verde Island Passage. Loyzaga highlighted the importance of the country's vast waters, which cover 220 million hectares, emphasizing their role in climate resilience and biodiversity.
