Denver Pioneers' players named Hobey Baker Award finalists
The Denver Pioneers have two players nominated for the Hobey Baker Award, which honors the best player in college hockey. Forward Jack Devine and defenseman Zeev Buium made the list of top 10 finalists announced on Wednesday. Jack Devine has been impressive this season, leading the nation with 41 assists and a total of 54 points in 39 games. Zeev Buium is also having a strong season, with 30 assists and 42 points, tying him for the highest total among defensemen. Both players are the only finalists from the National Collegiate Hockey Conference. The final three candidates for the award, known as the Hobey Hat Trick, will be revealed on April 3. The award winner will be announced on April 11 during the NCAA Frozen Four. Fans can vote for their favorite player at hobeybaker.com until March 30. The Hobey Baker Award is based on not just skill, but also character, sportsmanship, and academic achievements. The Pioneers, with a record of 28-10-1, will compete against Arizona State in the NCHC Frozen Faceoff semifinals on Friday at 3 p.m. Meanwhile, Western Michigan will face North Dakota in the other semifinal at 6:30 p.m. The winners of these matches will meet in the championship game on Saturday evening. The Pioneers are looking to defend their title after winning last year.
