Deputy shoots man during domestic violence call in Florida

A sheriff's deputy in Florida shot a man during a domestic violence call, and the event was recorded on body camera. The incident took place in Riverview early Sunday morning. Deputy Shawn Swinford responded to a 911 call about a domestic dispute. When he arrived, he found the partner of the man, identified as Manuel Alvarez, outside the home. She reported that Alvarez had assaulted her and was armed inside the house. As Swinford approached the top of the stairs, he saw Alvarez standing in a doorway with a gun pointed at him. He fired his weapon, hitting Alvarez at least once. The 50-year-old man was critically injured and rushed to the hospital for surgery. He is now in critical but stable condition. Deputy Swinford has been placed on administrative leave with pay while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates the shooting. This is a standard procedure in such cases.
