Deputy stabbed in neck; suspect remains at large
An Orange County sheriff's deputy was stabbed in the neck on Tuesday while patrolling a neighborhood in San Clemente. The incident occurred around 2:15 p.m. during a routine outreach for the homeless. The suspect is a man in his mid-30s who is currently on the run. He is described as approximately 5-feet-10, weighing around 160 pounds, with brown hair, blue eyes, and a beard. At the time of the attack, he was wearing a black jacket and dark pants. The deputy was treated for a non-life-threatening injury at a nearby hospital. After the stabbing, the suspect was last seen running towards a storm drain at the intersection of Pico and El Camino Real. In response to the incident, students at nearby San Clemente High School and Las Palmas Elementary School were put on lockdown. Authorities urge anyone who sees the suspect not to approach him and to immediately call 911. The suspect has had prior contact with the sheriff's department.
