Derby Market Hall announces first traders for reopening
Derby City Council has announced the first traders who will open shops in the newly refurbished Derby Market Hall. The Market Hall is set to reopen on May 24 after a £35.1 million renovation. This project aims to enhance Derby's independent shopping, dining, and entertainment options. Among the first traders is Bailey’s Fishmongers, which has operated in the Market Hall for 65 years. It is Derby's last remaining fishmonger and has been a family-run business for over a century. Customers can expect fresh fish and seafood products. Council leader Councillor Nadine Peatfield expressed excitement about the new and returning traders. She believes they will offer something special for everyone in the community. The goal is to create a vibrant shopping and dining experience in the Market Hall. Several new businesses will set up stalls, including Caffé Prosecco. This café is known for its premium drinks and will serve coffee, croissants, and cakes, along with gluten-free and alcohol-free options. Derbyshire’s Own will provide locally sourced groceries to support the local economy. Street food vendor Colombo Street will serve authentic Sri Lankan cuisine, famous for its Kottu dishes. Nico's Gelato and Coffee will offer artisan gelato and Italian pastries, made by an owner who brought his family recipes from Italy. Other traders include Mardy Ducks, which specializes in vintage clothing, and The Oddities Store, known for its unique fashion pieces made from second-hand materials. More traders will be announced soon as the Market Hall prepares for its grand reopening.
