Desmond Lee anticipates competitive West Coast-Jurong West election

National Development Minister Desmond Lee expects a competitive fight in the upcoming elections for the West Coast-Jurong West Group Representation Constituency (GRC). He believes that if voters give the People's Action Party (PAP) their support, the team will be ready to serve. In a recent podcast, Mr. Lee noted that the 2020 elections were closely contested, and he anticipates the same for this election. This GRC was recently created, including some areas from the existing Jurong GRC, which is known to lean towards the PAP. The West Coast GRC will also lose some regions to this new GRC. Mr. Lee was part of the PAP team that narrowly won against the Progress Singapore Party in 2020. He shared that over the years, he has worked hard to support both the Boon Lay and West Coast districts. With the resignation of former transport minister S. Iswaran due to corruption charges, Mr. Lee has had to adjust to new challenges. Since entering politics in 2011, Mr. Lee has found the last five years particularly demanding. He faced issues such as the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on public housing and the changes in leadership within his team. He emphasized the value of teamwork and collaboration in achieving effective governance. Through these experiences, Mr. Lee has improved his multitasking skills and recognized the need to work with diverse groups, including public servants and community volunteers. He believes that engaging various perspectives helps create fair and practical policies for the community.
