Detransitioners seek justice against doctors for informed consent
Mark Trammell, an attorney at the Center for American Liberty, is representing detransitioners in lawsuits against doctors and hospitals. These individuals claim they did not receive proper "informed consent" before undergoing major surgeries that changed their bodies. Trammell argues that many young women were harmed by what he calls the "gender industrial complex," starting from as young as 13 years old. Some of his clients experienced surgeries like double mastectomies as teenagers, while also being prescribed puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones without adequate information about the risks. Recently, a federal judge in Baltimore issued a temporary order stopping the implementation of an executive order by former President Trump that aimed to restrict federal funding for surgeries on minors. As a result, some hospitals have started to resume gender-affirming treatments. Trammell plans to hold doctors and medical facilities accountable through lawsuits seeking financial compensation for the alleged harm. He shared that past cases related to school transitions opened the eyes of many parents. For instance, one mother found out her child was being transitioned socially at school without her knowledge. At a recent meeting hosted by the Department of Education, several detransitioners voiced concerns about gender ideology in schools. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon emphasized the importance of parental awareness in matters related to their children's health. The Biden administration continues to address concerns about medical interventions for gender dysphoria, warning pediatric facilities to consider the potential long-term harm these treatments may cause. The Department of Health and Human Services is evaluating policies to ensure the safety of children in these cases.
