Detroit man arrested for bank robberies in Michigan
Police have arrested a man connected to bank robberies in two cities in Michigan. Dorian Trevor Sykes, 41, of Detroit, has been charged with bank robbery and related offenses. According to court documents, on March 6, 2025, Sykes entered the Credit Union One in Sterling Heights around 11:50 a.m. He handed the teller a note that the teller could not read. Sykes then demanded "big bills," and the teller gave him about $10,169. He took the money and the note before leaving the bank. A week later, on March 12, 2025, Sykes reportedly robbed Chase Bank in Lathrup Village at around 4:40 p.m. He gave the teller a withdrawal slip demanding money while indicating he had a gun. The teller handed him approximately $3,400 before he fled. Police found that the descriptions from witnesses and surveillance footage matched Sykes from both robberies. He has been on federal supervised release since February 2024 for a previous bank robbery conviction in 2020. Sykes appeared in federal court on March 18, 2025. If convicted for the latest charges, he could face up to 20 years in prison.
