Developed nations pledge $300 billion for climate aid but developing countries express disappointment
A new climate deal was reached, committing developed nations to provide at least $300 billion annually by 2035 to help developing countries address climate change. This amount is an increase from the previous $100 billion pledge but falls short of the $500 billion many poorer nations sought. Developing countries expressed strong disappointment, calling the $300 billion pledge inadequate. Indian delegate Chandni Raina described it as "abysmally poor," while Sierra Leone's climate minister criticized it as a sign of "lack of goodwill" from wealthier nations. The deal was finalized after intense negotiations in Baku, Azerbaijan, where many developing nations threatened to walk away if their demands were not met. The agreement aims for a broader target of $1.3 trillion annually, primarily from private sources, to tackle climate challenges.
