Developing nations criticize $300 billion climate deal as inadequate
A new climate deal was approved by nearly 200 nations, pledging $300 billion annually from developed countries to help poorer nations combat climate change. This amount, however, has been criticized as insufficient by many developing nations, which had sought at least $500 billion. The agreement, reached after intense negotiations in Azerbaijan, marks an increase from a previous $100 billion commitment. Despite this, representatives from countries like India and Sierra Leone expressed disappointment, calling the deal a "betrayal" and an "optical illusion." The deal aims for a total of $1.3 trillion per year to address climate challenges, with most funding expected to come from private sources. Developed nations face pressure to provide more support, especially as the impacts of climate change intensify globally.
