Devon L. Smith shot by police in Pullman incident

Authorities have identified the man who was shot and killed by a Chicago Police officer during a domestic violence incident in the Pullman neighborhood. The man, named Devon L. Smith, was 43 years old. His identity was confirmed by the Cook County medical examiner's office. The shooting occurred early Thursday morning after police received a call about a domestic disturbance involving a gun at a home on East 100th Street. Smith lived nearby. Court records show he had a criminal history, including convictions for attempted murder and aggravated battery. He served several years in prison for these offenses. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Smith and a female victim in a bedroom. The woman was able to leave the room as officers attempted to negotiate the situation. However, Smith reportedly pointed a gun at an officer, leading to the police opening fire. Smith was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he later died. A weapon was recovered at the scene. The results of Smith’s autopsy have not yet been released. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
