Dhankhar promises improvements for women MPs' facilities
Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar has promised to address the concerns of women MPs regarding facilities in the new Parliament building. This includes issues like clean toilets, refreshments, seating, transportation, and a space for interaction between members of both Houses. On Wednesday morning, a group of ten women MPs from various parties approached Dhankhar with a list of demands. They are experiencing discomfort in the new parliament house due to the lack of proper facilities. The MPs highlighted the need for clean toilets, drinking water, and places to rest, as well as a protective cover over the stairway to shield from heat and rain. Dhankhar listened to their concerns and took note of them. He promised to resolve most issues within 72 hours and tasked the secretary general with coordinating efforts. However, he mentioned that he would personally address the creation of an interactive space similar to the old Central Hall. The women MPs expressed their dissatisfaction with the current setup, noting that the two Houses hardly interact due to separate canteen areas. They suggested transforming the atrium that connects the canteens into a shared space for members. They also requested improvements such as privacy in communication areas, additional seating, and more ferry vehicles. Overall, the women MPs are hopeful that their requests will lead to better working conditions in the new Parliament. They are eager for improvements that would allow for better interaction between members and a more comfortable environment for all.
