Diamond Aircraft celebrates legacy of HK36 motor glider with ongoing production and innovations
Diamond Aircraft, originally Hoffmann Flugzeugbau, launched its first motor glider, the H36, in 1981. The updated HK36 Super Dimona debuted in 1989, featuring carbon fiber construction and improved performance. Over 900 units have been built, and production continues today. The HK36 has seen multiple variants, including the HK36TS and HK36TC-100, which enhanced range and performance. The latest adaptations include the hybrid electric DA36 E-Star and a hydrogen fuel cell model developed for Boeing, showcasing advancements in sustainable aviation. Despite production interruptions in the 2000s, the HK36 returned in 2018 and remains popular. Its success laid the groundwork for Diamond's future aircraft, including the DA20 and DA40 models, solidifying the company's reputation in general aviation.
