Diamondbacks choose Zac Gallen as Opening Day starter

The Arizona Diamondbacks have chosen Zac Gallen as their Opening Day starter for the upcoming season. Manager Torey Lovullo made the announcement on Thursday. Gallen will pitch against the Chicago Cubs on March 27 at Chase Field. This will be Gallen's third consecutive start on Opening Day for the Diamondbacks. Lovullo revealed that he carefully considered the decision between Gallen and newcomer Corbin Burnes during spring training. He even consulted with 32 staff members, with a split vote of 16 for each pitcher. Lovullo praised both players, calling them elite pitchers and great teammates. He noted that either player would have been a good choice for the role. The team's decision reflects their confidence in Gallen as they prepare for the start of the season.
