Different poppy colors reflect diverse meanings on Remembrance Day
As Remembrance Day nears, many wear red poppies to honor fallen soldiers. However, some opt for white, purple, or black poppies due to concerns that the red poppy has become politicized and associated with military power. White poppies, distributed by the Peace Pledge Union, remember all war victims and promote peace. The Royal British Legion supports the coexistence of red and white poppies but advises against displaying them together to avoid confusion. Purple poppies honor animals that served in wars, while black poppies recognize contributions from African and Caribbean communities. Each poppy serves a distinct purpose, reflecting different aspects of remembrance.
