Din Tai Fung opens first Canadian restaurant in Vancouver
Din Tai Fung will soon open its first restaurant in Canada, located in downtown Vancouver at 1132 Alberni St. This popular Taiwanese chain is known for its delicious soup dumplings, called xiao long bao. The restaurant is expected to open in spring 2025, but a specific date has not been set yet. The new Din Tai Fung will occupy more than 16,400 square feet on the second floor. It will have seating for over 300 guests, including an outdoor patio for 88 diners. Approximately 300 people are expected to be employed at this location. The restaurant's design is inspired by Chinese Zen gardens. It will feature a rock garden at the entrance and large decorative lanterns. Inside, there will be a faux bonsai tree and decorative tiles that resemble a garden path. Customers will also be able to see the dumpling-making process in action at a dedicated station near the bar. Din Tai Fung started in 1958 as a cooking oil business in Taiwan and shifted to serving dumplings and noodles in 1972. Today, it has about 170 locations worldwide, with Canada becoming the 14th country to host the brand.
