Director accused of scamming drivers with fake fees
A company director named Christopher Miller is under investigation for allegedly scamming drivers. He runs a business that appears to operate fake websites related to clean air zone fees in cities like Birmingham, Sheffield, Bristol, and Bath. Miller's websites have been described as "copycat" sites, misleading motorists into paying high fees to drive in low-emission zones. He reportedly uses Google ads to make his sites appear at the top of search results. However, these sites are not connected to official council payment portals. Many drivers have complained after discovering that their payments did not go to the city councils. Instead, they received fines for unpaid charges weeks after they thought they had settled the fees. One driver shared her experience, saying she paid $14 through a site run by Miller and later got a $60 fine because her payment did not reach the authorities. Miller, who enjoys flaunting his wealth with luxury cars, denies any wrongdoing. Although he acknowledged there were some issues, he claimed that the company provides a valid service and that customers are usually refunded for mistakes. He stated that his company follows legal and ethical standards. Trading Standards Wales is leading the investigation and has been looking into Miller for over a year. They have attempted to shut down several of his websites but faced challenges as new ones quickly appeared. Google has removed ads that broke its policies in response to the complaints.
