Director reveals trick for filming seamless driving scenes
Philip Barantini, the director of the Netflix drama "Adolescence," recently shared behind-the-scenes details about a key scene from episode four. This episode takes place one year after a tragic event involving the Miller family and their teenage son, Jamie. The episode features many moments where Stephen Graham's character drives a van. Fans have wondered how the show managed to film these driving scenes without breaking the continuous shot that is a signature of the series. Barantini revealed that Graham did not drive the van himself. Instead, a person was concealed on the roof of the van, controlling the steering. The director explained that they had to switch between two vans during filming. The first van is used when the character first leaves the house, and it looks normal. After this scene, they quickly replaced it with a stunt van that had a special setup for the hidden driver. Barantini added that viewers would not notice the switch because of how it was filmed. The show has been praised for its stunts and the creativity of its filming techniques. "Adolescence" has been streaming on Netflix since earlier this month, and all four episodes are now available for viewers to watch.
