Disney CEO praises upcoming films at shareholder meeting
Disney CEO Bob Iger shared exciting updates about upcoming films at the company’s annual shareholder meeting. He introduced several projects, including "Avatar: Fire and Ash," "Lilo & Stitch," and "Alien: Earth." New footage from the latter two was showcased during the event. Iger described an early cut of "Avatar: Fire and Ash," directed by James Cameron, as “absolutely breathtaking.” He did not present new images from the movie but emphasized its importance for Disney. A special extended look at "Lilo & Stitch" featured scenes that were not included in the recent trailer. For "Alien: Earth," Iger showed a suspenseful sneak peek, highlighting a tense moment in a space station where a crew member faces an attack from an alien. Iger also announced a sequel to Pixar's "Coco," which is expected to release in 2029. Disney's film and TV divisions have recently seen a revival, following a difficult period in 2024. He noted that successful animated films like "Inside Out 2" and "Moana 2" helped improve Disney's box office performance. Iger stressed the importance of focusing on quality and highlighted that Disney won a record 60 Emmy Awards for various TV shows. The CEO concluded by acknowledging the impact of the company’s $71.3 billion acquisition of 21st Century Fox, which brought popular franchises like "Avatar" and "The Simpsons" to Disney.
