Disney's live-action remakes are not always successful
Disney's live-action remakes have been popular but not all have been successful. While some titles have made a lot of money, others have flopped at the box office despite high budgets. Here are five remakes that did not perform well. First is "Alice Through the Looking Glass." Released in 2016, it made $299.45 million worldwide, which is low compared to its $170 million budget. The original, "Alice in Wonderland," had been a big hit, but the sequel failed to attract audiences. Next is "The Sorcerer’s Apprentice." This film grossed $215.28 million worldwide but had a budget of $150 million. It struggled to compete with other animated films released in 2010. "Dumbo," released in 2019, is another example. It had a $170 million budget but only made $353.28 million globally. This result was disappointing for Disney, which had high hopes for the film. "102 Dalmatians," the sequel to "101 Dalmatians," also underperformed. Released in 2000, it earned $183.6 million worldwide, significantly less than its predecessor. Finally, "Mulan" was expected to be a major success but only earned about $163 million after its release on Disney+ during the pandemic. This was far from enough to cover its $200 million budget. These failures remind us that even big studios like Disney can face challenges in predicting box office success.
