Dissanayake aims for parliamentary majority in Sri Lanka elections on November 14

Sri Lanka's parliamentary elections are set for November 14, following the closure of campaigning on November 11. Nearly 9,000 candidates are competing for 225 seats, with President Anura Dissanayake aiming to secure a majority for his party, the National People’s Power (NPP). Dissanayake is focusing on minority Tamil and Muslim regions, promising development and unity. His party previously held only three seats in the last parliament. The election marks a significant shift, as no members of the Rajapaksa family are contesting. The results will be announced in two phases, starting November 15. The new parliament's inaugural session is scheduled for November 21, where the President will outline his government's policies.
