Doctor advises excessive tiredness sufferers to consult GP
Doctor Punam Krishan, a GP from Glasgow, advises people feeling tired all the time to see their doctor. This condition is often referred to as TATT, which stands for Tired All The Time. On BBC Morning Live, Dr. Krishan highlighted that fatigue is a common complaint in her practice. She encourages those experiencing persistent tiredness to evaluate their situation. While temporary tiredness can be caused by life stresses, lasting fatigue could indicate a deeper issue. "If it’s something that’s persisting, you must speak to your doctor," she emphasized. Dr. Krishan pointed out several factors that can lead to fatigue, including life changes such as losing a loved one, relationship problems, and financial stress. She also mentioned that diet and hydration impact energy levels. If these factors do not apply, psychological issues like anxiety or depression may be affecting fatigue. Medications can also play a role. Sedatives, pain meds, and certain antihistamines can lead to feelings of exhaustion. Dr. Krishan urged people to consider any medications they take. Physical health issues may also cause tiredness. Conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, thyroid disorders, and even cancer can lead to significant fatigue. Getting to the cause is crucial, she added. To find out the reasons behind tiredness, Dr. Krishan suggests starting with a person's social history and lifestyle. Questions about diet, exercise, and alcohol consumption are vital. If no reversible causes are found, doctors may conduct blood tests to check for hormonal imbalances, endocrine disorders, and vitamin deficiencies.
