DOGE staffer mishandled personal data in email
A staffer at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) violated Treasury rules by emailing unencrypted personal data. Marko Elez sent a spreadsheet with sensitive information to two Trump administration officials before resigning in February. The security breach was revealed in a court filing by David Ambrose, a senior cybersecurity official. The Treasury's investigation found that Elez's email contained unapproved, unencrypted personal information. Elez was rehired on February 18 and now works at the Social Security Administration. A coalition of U.S. attorneys general continues to raise concerns about the DOGE team's access to sensitive data.
