$32M repaving project starts for I-94 in Michigan
Crews have started a major repaving project on I-94 in Southwest Michigan. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced that work began on March 17. This project will cost $31.7 million and will take two years. The repaving will be done in two phases. This year, workers will focus on westbound I-94, while eastbound I-94 will be repaved in 2026. The project will also include repairs to the Hennessey Road bridge over the expressway and the repaving of the Friday Road interchange, also known as Exit 39. During construction, two lanes will stay open in each direction. However, there may be some nighttime hours when only one lane is available. Additional work will involve drainage repairs, culvert replacements, and the upgrading of guardrails and cable barriers. The project is expected to be completed by August 15, 2026. It is anticipated to create 302 jobs, both directly and indirectly. The goal is to improve road safety, enhance the drive quality, and extend the life of the pavement.
