$5.2 million bond set for Mamou shooting suspect
A 19-year-old man named Trea'land Ty'rell Castille is facing serious charges after a mass shooting during Mardi Gras in Mamou. He was booked into the Evangeline Parish jail and has a bond set at $5.2 million. Castille is charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, illegal carrying of a firearm, and reckless discharge of a firearm at the parade. The shooting occurred on March 4 during an outdoor Zydeco concert, resulting in two deaths and injuring 12 people. Previously, Castille was arrested on March 8 in Montgomery County, Texas, after being linked to the Mamou shooting. He also faces charges related to a drive-by shooting in St. Martin Parish from January, where he was charged with aggravated criminal damage to property and assault with a firearm. The mass shooting has left the Mamou community devastated and in shock. Just a day before the Mardi Gras tragedy, three people were injured in a separate shooting at a Lundi Gras event.
