Dolphins' Siran Neal signs with 49ers in free agency
The Miami Dolphins are losing cornerback Siran Neal as he signs a two-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers. Neal played a key role in the Dolphins' special teams last season. His departure is notable as the team has recently changed its special teams coordinator from Danny Crossman to Craig Aukerman. Neal expressed his desire to stay with the Dolphins last month during a charity event. He enjoyed living in Miami and had positive feelings about the city. He mentioned having communication with Aukerman, with whom he has a history from their time in Buffalo. In 2024, Neal played on 84% of the Dolphins' special teams snaps. He was a valuable contributor, also appearing in a few defensive plays. The Dolphins have brought in former Miami Hurricanes cornerback Artie Burns, who may fill a similar role on special teams. As the Dolphins adjust their special teams under Aukerman, they have also signed punter Ryan Stonehouse to compete with Jake Bailey. Recently, safety Elijah Campbell was re-signed and could also provide depth and experience on special teams.
