Donald Trump wins 2024 election and becomes 47th president, ineligible for 2028 run
Donald Trump has won the 2024 presidential election, defeating Vice President Kamala Harris. This victory makes him the 47th president and only the second to serve non-consecutive terms, following Grover Cleveland. Under the 22nd Amendment, Trump is limited to two terms, meaning he cannot run for president again after his upcoming term ends in 2029. This amendment was ratified in 1951 to prevent any president from serving more than two terms. Trump has previously stated he would not run again in 2028 if he lost the 2024 election. He will officially take office for his second term on January 20, 2025.
