DPI orders inspections of private school hostels in Mandya
The Commissioner of Public Instruction has ordered inspections of unauthorized hostels and tutorials run by private schools. This follows the recent death of two students from food poisoning in a private school hostel in Mandya district. The Commissioner, K.V. Trilok Chandra, instructed all Deputy Directors of Public Instruction to check these facilities in their areas. Reports should be submitted quickly, focusing on any unauthorized operations. There are concerns that some schools are illegally running hostels and tutorials after gaining approval to operate as schools. Safety measures for students are crucial to avoid any accidents in these unauthorized facilities. The Commissioner warned that school managements will face consequences if they do not comply. Additionally, Block Education Officers and Deputy Directors will be held responsible for any incidents that occur in these hostels or tutorials. The tragedy involved two students from Meghalaya who died after eating food from the hostel. More than 40 other students also became ill from the same incident.
