DPR for Nigdi-Chakan Metro expected next month
The Pimpri Chinchwad area in Pune is about to expand its Metro services. Maha Metro plans to complete a detailed project report (DPR) for a new 42-kilometer route next month. This route, covering Nigdi, Mukai Chowk, Wakad, Nashik Phata, and Chakan, will connect several important areas that have been growing rapidly. Maha Metro has been working on this project since last year, and it is now in its final stages. After completing the DPR, Maha Metro will submit it to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) for approval. The report includes details on the route alignment, station locations, land needs, and expected passenger numbers. This new route will be the second Metro line in the area. The first, which runs from Dapodi to PCMC, is already operational, and another stretch from PCMC to Nigdi is currently under construction. Although a proposal for a Metro-Neo system on the Nashik Phata-Chakan route was considered, it did not advance, leading to a new proposal for a regular Metro line instead. Residents have expressed a need for better public transportation due to increasing commuting challenges. Some have suggested connecting the new route to the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar area. Local resident SM Shinde highlighted the importance of extending Metro services in Pimpri Chinchwad and hopes for quick clearances and completion of the Nigdi-Chakan route.
