Dr. P.V. Nanda Kumar Reddy is KNRUHS vice-chancellor

Dr. P.V. Nanda Kumar Reddy has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor of Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) in Telangana. This decision was announced on March 18, 2025, by Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and Health Secretary Christina Z. Chongthu. Dr. Reddy will serve a three-year term in his new role. Dr. Reddy previously worked as the superintendent of Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital and has over 32 years of experience in the medical field. He takes over from Dr. B. Karunakar Reddy, who led KNRUHS for a decade. Dr. Karunakar's tenure began in 2015, initially on a temporary basis, and he later received extensions amid concerns about his long stay in office. The issue of a new vice-chancellor was raised in 2022 when the Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association filed a petition in the Telangana High Court. They highlighted delays in the appointment process. In June 2023, the High Court instructed the state government to provide clarity on the situation. Following the court's order, the Telangana government opened applications for the vice-chancellor position in June 2024. Candidates were required to have significant academic experience, including at least two years as a dean or as a principal of a medical college.
