Dr. Richard Miller faces termination from Westside Hospital
Scott Wolf's character, Dr. Richard Miller, faced serious consequences in the finale of the Fox series Doc. On March 18, Richard had to take responsibility for a patient’s death, which led to his firing from Westside Hospital. His role as Chief of Internal Medicine is now uncertain, and his medical license is also at risk. In an interview, Wolf described Richard’s situation as “inevitable” and “tragic.” He emphasized that the character's journey felt realistic and relatable, highlighting how each character in the show is given a chance to confront their actions, creating depth and complexity. The storyline involved Richard initially denying any mistakes after a patient's death, a situation complicated by the memory loss of Dr. Amy Larsen, played by Molly Parker. As the story unfolded, it was revealed that Richard had given the patient the wrong medication. He lied to Amy about her involvement, which ultimately led to him being reported to the hospital. Wolf noted the tragedy of Richard’s choices, which were impacted by his home life, where his son was struggling with mental health issues. He mentioned that the character was trying to handle various pressures but lost control. Despite the challenges, fans will not have to wait long for more of Richard’s story. Doc has been renewed for a second season with 20 episodes. Wolf expressed excitement about the potential for Richard's redemption and mentioned that the show promotes the idea of second chances. The series is also available for streaming on Hulu.
