Dracut man charged with stabbing mother multiple times

A man from Dracut, Sebastian DeGout, is in custody after being accused of stabbing his mother multiple times. The incident happened last Saturday in her apartment. DeGout's mother had previously tried to have him hospitalized due to concerns about his mental health and drug use. However, her petition for mandatory hospitalization was denied. During a court hearing, prosecutors revealed details of the violent attack. DeGout, 38, allegedly stabbed his mother more than ten times with a folding knife. The attack was described as prolonged and brutal, with wounds on her neck, back, and limbs. At the time, the victim was on the phone with her sister, who heard her scream for help before the call disconnected. The sister contacted the police, who arrived to find DeGout had left the apartment and his mother in critical condition. Neighbors attempted to help the injured woman while DeGout was found walking nearby with blood on his clothing. Police recovered the knife, which also had blood on it. The woman underwent surgery and remains hospitalized. DeGout has a history of threatening his mother and was already wanted for a drug-related offense at the time of the attack. In court, DeGout's attorney argued that he cooperated with police and questioned the evidence suggesting he is a danger to the public. However, the judge agreed with prosecutors that DeGout poses a threat and ordered him to remain in custody without bail. His next court appearance is set for April 18. DeGout has been charged with serious offenses, including assault with a dangerous weapon.
