Driver arrests follow trapped officer incident in Chelsea
Police responded to a report of a car smoking in Chelsea, Michigan, on March 13. They were called to check on the driver, who was suspected of needing medical help. When officers arrived, they found a car with smoke coming from it. They asked the 40-year-old driver from Jackson to leave the vehicle due to safety concerns. Inside the car, officers noticed a loose hypodermic needle and the driver was sitting on a knife. The driver refused to get out of the car, ignoring multiple requests from the officers. One officer tried to unlock the door by reaching through a window, but the driver rolled the window up, trapping the officer's arm inside. Another officer quickly broke the window to free the trapped officer. They then pulled the driver from the car and arrested him. A search of the vehicle revealed suspected narcotics, drug paraphernalia, and the knife. The suspected drugs were sent for testing, and the case is now with the prosecutor’s office for possible charges.
