Driver sentenced to 13 years for crash that killed two teenagers in Birmingham
Dhiya Al Maamoury, 56, has been sentenced to 13-and-a-half years in prison for causing the deaths of two teenagers in a car crash during a meet in Oldbury, near Birmingham. He lost control of his modified Nissan Skyline, hitting a group of friends. The crash occurred in November 2022, killing 16-year-old Liberty Charris and 19-year-old Ben Corfield. Two others were seriously injured. Al Maamoury admitted to dangerous driving, having been speeding and showing off before the incident. Judge Michael Chambers described Al Maamoury's actions as reckless, emphasizing the danger posed to pedestrians. He also banned Al Maamoury from driving for 14 years following his release.
