Drug smuggler shot during escape attempt in Amritsar
A drug smuggler named Dharminder Singh, also known as Sonu, was shot in the leg during an escape attempt in Amritsar. This incident took place on Wednesday after he was arrested for possessing 8 kilograms of heroin and a firearm. Police officials said Singh tried to grab a weapon from head constable Vijay Kumar during a follow-up raid in Blue Breeze Colony. The police were taking him to recover more drugs when the incident occurred. In response, the officer fired in self-defense, injuring Singh in his left leg. Emergency medical care was provided, and Singh was taken to a civil hospital for treatment. The investigation continues, according to police commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar. Singh is from Harsha Chhinna village in Amritsar. In addition to the drugs and the weapon found, police also seized his Hyundai Creta car, which he allegedly used for deliveries. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav stated that Singh was in contact with cross-border drug smugglers using drones to transport drugs. Further investigations are being conducted to investigate the connections in this case.
