DSWD provides P6.7 million in aid to Kanlaon Volcano eruption victims
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the Philippines has provided over P6.7 million in aid to families affected by the recent eruption of Kanlaon Volcano. This assistance includes food packs and non-food items like sleeping and hygiene kits. As of Thursday morning, 654 families are sheltering in six evacuation centers in La Carlota City, while 2,825 families are in 11 centers in La Castellana. The total number of individuals in these centers is approximately 11,642. The eruption on December 9 prompted the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology to raise the alert level to 3, indicating magmatic unrest. Evacuation operations have been initiated for around 87,000 residents affected by the eruption.
