Dubai brothers aim for ten million free iftar meals

gulfnews.com

Two brothers from Malawi, Mohammed and Imran Karim, are on a mission to provide one million free iftar meals during Ramadan this year. They started the “Happy Happy UAE” initiative in 2015, and have already served eight million meals. Their goal is to reach ten million meals by the end of this year. Daily, they distribute around 33,000 meals to people in need, including workers and families. Mohammed mentioned that they not only provide meals during Ramadan but throughout the year as well. Imran explained that their efforts include giving out essential items like rice, flour, and sugar to families. The brothers also help free inmates by covering their fines and assisting with travel back home. Their inspiration comes from their late father, who would offer cold drinks to workers in hot weather during home construction. Now, Imran’s daughters and other volunteers assist in distributing meals. Volunteers come from various backgrounds, showing strong community spirit. The brothers are also working with local businesses to expand their efforts, including partnerships with organizations that recycle hotel soaps.
