Dubai initiatives aid 149 million globally in 2024
Dubai’s humanitarian organizations made a significant impact in 2024, benefiting 149 million people in 118 countries. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced the results at a ceremony today. The Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) spent Dh2.2 billion ($600 million) on health, education, and community development projects. This year's highlights include the launch of the Mothers’ Endowment campaign, establishing a Dh1 billion fund to support education globally. Also notable was the 1 Billion Meals Endowment campaign, which included plans for an AED800 million endowment tower to help combat global hunger. The foundation stone for the Hamdan bin Rashid Cancer Hospital—a major new hospital in Dubai—was also laid this year. During the announcement, Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the UAE's commitment to humanitarian work. He noted that the initiatives are focused on providing education, saving lives, and empowering women. The efforts aim to instill hope and create a positive legacy. MBRGI’s initiatives engaged over 171,000 volunteers in 2024, helping to carry out various humanitarian and development projects. In addition, the organization recognized significant contributions from major donors, awarding the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Order for Philanthropy to Mirwais Azizi, among others. The organization also prioritized healthcare, focusing on treatment and disease prevention. It invested AED210 million, impacting around 6.5 million people, and supported health initiatives in Gaza. In education, MBRGI invested AED599 million, significantly aiding over 100 million people. The 8th Arab Reading Challenge involved over 28 million students, showcasing the importance placed on literacy. Overall, MBRGI's work is structured across five key areas: humanitarian aid, healthcare, education, innovation, and community empowerment. The organization continues to strive for a positive change and support for those in need around the world.
