Dublin duo sentenced for attempted robbery and assault
A man and a woman have been sentenced to prison for their roles in a robbery and assault in Dublin. The victim was beaten unconscious during the attack, which occurred in November 2020. Samantha Osbourne, 33, and Adam Casey, 22, pleaded guilty to attempted robbery. Osbourne, living in a Dublin hostel, has a long history of theft convictions. Casey, who turned 18 just before the incident, also has previous convictions for other offenses. The court heard that the victim was socializing with friends when he stopped to smoke a cigarette. Osbourne approached him and asked for a cigarette. A third man, Andrew Cash, held the victim down while Osbourne searched his pockets. Later, all three attacked the victim again, kicking him and stamping on his head while he lay unconscious. When police arrived, the victim was injured and bleeding. He suffered fractures and a concussion. Surveillance footage helped identify Osbourne and Casey, both of whom initially denied involvement before eventually pleading guilty. Judge Martin Nolan sentenced Osbourne to 16 months in prison, taking into account her lack of violent convictions and her difficult background. For Casey, the judge handed a four-year sentence, suspending the last year, noting that his actions were more serious. Casey will also be under probation supervision for one year after his release.
