Duquesne women's basketball defeats Miami (Ohio) 73-66
The Duquesne women's basketball team won against Miami (Ohio) with a final score of 73-66 in the second round of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament. The game took place on Sunday, and this victory allows Duquesne to continue their season. Duquesne led the game 61-47 after three quarters. However, Miami mounted a late comeback, bringing the score closer. Duquesne’s junior, Andjela Matic, helped keep the lead by scoring five free throws during a crucial moment. Despite Miami’s efforts to close the gap to just four points, Duquesne held onto the victory thanks to key plays in the final moments. Coach Dan Burt expressed satisfaction with the win, noting the importance of victories in March. He acknowledged that while the team struggled with turnovers, their strong start helped them secure the win. Senior guard Megan McConnell made history in the game by becoming Duquesne's all-time leader in steals with a total of 386. She also scored 24 points, along with nine rebounds and six assists. Jerni Kiaku contributed 17 points, and Mackenzie Blackford came off the bench to add 14 points. Andjela Matic finished with 13 points and eight rebounds. Duquesne (21-12) will advance to the Super 16 and will face the winner of an upcoming game between Cleveland State and Coppin State on Friday.
