DVSA changes driving test cancellation notice to ten days

Starting next month, drivers will need to notify the DVSA at least 10 working days before their scheduled test if they wish to cancel or change their appointment. This is a significant increase from the current requirement of just three working days. If they miss the new deadline, they will lose their test fee. The DVSA hopes this change will help reduce the backlog of driving tests in the UK. In 2024, around 60,000 driving test appointments were not used because people did not show up. This number is similar to what five full-time examiners could conduct in a year. Officials also noted that they would continue to cover costs for anyone who needs to cancel their tests within three working days due to valid reasons. The DVSA stated that many drivers hesitate to reschedule until the last minute, making it harder for others to fill those slots. By extending the notice period, they aim to make appointment times more accessible for everyone. This rule change is part of a broader initiative by the DVSA to improve the availability of driving tests.
