Dylan Barrett wins seventh place at PIAA wrestling tournament

Penn-Trafford junior Dylan Barrett has earned a seventh-place medal at the PIAA 3A wrestling tournament held on March 8 in Hershey. Competing in the 114-pound weight class, Barrett ended the tournament with a record of 38 wins and 7 losses this season. Barrett began the PIAA tournament with a win against Radnor’s Jayden Lee. However, he lost his next match to Central Dauphin’s Thunder Beard. In a crucial "blood round," Barrett bounced back to defeat Connellsville’s Zachary Franks. He then lost again to Emmaus’ Emilio Albanese before securing seventh place by defeating Spring-Ford’s Gus Smith, 4-2. Barrett expressed mixed feelings about his performance, stating he hopes to improve next season. In another highlight, sophomore Luke DeSantis qualified for the PIAA tournament. Competing at 121 pounds, he won his first match but lost the next two matches. DeSantis remarked that the experience was valuable and he looks forward to returning next year. The Penn-Trafford baseball team had a mixed week in Vero Beach, Florida. They started their season with a win over Norwin but lost to Brighton from Colorado. The team managed to secure a win against Riverdale Ridge, bringing their record to 2-1. They are set to continue their season with games against Latrobe. In boys tennis, Penn-Trafford began their section play with a close win against Plum. Key victories by Luke Nicotero and Evan Sadler helped the team claim the match. The boys tennis team also achieved a win over Thomas Jefferson in a non-section match. Lastly, senior outfielder Rilie Moors announced her commitment to Division II Seton Hill University. Moors has shown strong performance in her games, including a game where she had three hits and two doubles despite a loss to Hempfield.
