EA ends Apex Legends support for Steam Deck and Linux over anti-cheat issues
Electronic Arts has announced that Apex Legends will no longer support the Steam Deck and Linux platforms due to concerns over cheating. The company cited Linux as a source of various exploits that complicate anti-cheat efforts. Previously, Apex Legends was one of the few battle royale games available on the Steam Deck, using Epic Games’ Easy Anti-Cheat software. However, EA now believes that the risks associated with Linux outweigh the benefits of supporting a small player base. Other game developers, like Riot Games, have also avoided Linux support for similar reasons. They highlight the challenges of detecting cheats on an open platform, which can be manipulated more easily than on Windows.
