Early voting paused to reinstate Antoine Bass on ballot
Early voting in Rich Township was temporarily halted on Tuesday. This pause was necessary to put Antoine Bass back on the ballot for the supervisor position. Bass had been removed earlier due to invalid signatures on his nomination papers. The Cook County clerk's office announced that early voting would resume the following day. Votes already cast for the current supervisor, Calvin Jordan, will not be counted. New ballots are being printed, and they will include both Jordan's and Bass's names for the upcoming election on April 1. Bass is the only candidate challenging Jordan, who was first elected in 2021. Other township offices have candidates, but none are contested. Arlene M. 'Sugar' Al-Amin is running for reelection as clerk, while several candidates are competing for trustee positions. Bass claims that after a court ruled he could be on the ballot, Al-Amin did not certify the new ballot in time for early voting. To address this, Bass filed an emergency motion, which was approved. He suggested that Jordan did not want to face him in the election. Neither Jordan nor Al-Amin has commented on the situation.
